Err...no. This didn't happen in the States, Rynar. This is yet another example of UK bureaucractic silliness, no actual healthcare involved in the "decision", just short bus stupidity on an English local government council.

A lot of stores do that LK, in particular national chains. Some have also started including, or adding, spaces for parents with small children.

However, unless there is something in the local code, its an honor system.

There is no legal ramifications for parking in those spaces.

In Northeast Ohio there was quite a trend to put in expectant mother parking that seems to have reversed recently with most stores eliminating it.

It reversed when people figured out that A) it's not enforceable B) it's pointless to issue expectant mother parking tags and make it enforceable C) For most women, being epxectant isn't really a limit on their actiities until fairly close to birth and D) women with newborns and small children, and men with them as well, have problems as big or bigger.

There's also the fact that exercise is good for pregnant women.

As for the fat people getting handicap stickers, that pisses me off too. In college, in the Regimental Band, there was a female cadet (corps only, not ROTC) who was exceedingly fat and had one.. yet she mysteriously had no problem marching in a 3-mile parade, or from the barracks to the stadium for a football game, in a halftime show, in a postgame pass-in-review, and again back to the barracks.

Function is my specialty. However, the number of complaints I hear when I will not write for handicapped parking.....

Well, anyways there is a detailed form that must be filled out by a doctor in Texas for this. If the patient does not fit the rules, I show them the place on the form. They are NOT happy. It takes three times as long for me to refuse and deal with the fallout, as it would to 'fib' and sign it. Sorry, I won't lie.

On the other hand, I have had patients who really pushed (or their SO pushed!) and got stronger and started walking programs. They are genuinely happier, though most say they were doubtful when they started.

Guess it doesn't help that my dad lost his leg in WWII, and refused handicapped parking until the last 3 years of his life. :P
